  • Free Annual Credit Report: The only government approved free annual credit report with no payment or hassles. You can use this to receive you credit report once a year from all three credit agencies. Note that you must pay extra for a credit score (around $15 each).
  • Optoutprescreen.com: Operated by the major consumer reporting companies. Please note that you’ll be asked to provide personal information, including your home telephone number, name, Social Security number, and date of birth. This is confidential and will be used only to process your request to opt out. You can also call 1-888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688).
  • National Do Not Call Registry: Run by the FTC, this will take your phone number off most telemarketers databases. If you still receive any calls from telemarketers you can also file a complaint on this website.
  • National Foundation for Credit Counseling: Contains a list of legitimate Credit Counseling firms, approved by the Federal Government.
  • Association of Independent Consumer Credit Counseling Agencies: Same as above; Contains a list of legitimate Credit Counseling firms.
  • Better Business Bureau: A must-check before handing your money or personal information to any company.
