The Economist has two excellent articles on GMOs and their increase in use throughout the world. They both basically state that there has been an increase in their adoption, particularly in the developing world. Their opposition seems to lie mostly in Europe now (with some resistance in India as well). It happens quite often that richer countries object in the name of what they think is in the poorer countries’ best interests.
While we do accept that big companies and new forms of technologies may bring problems associated with GMOs, we think these problems should be dealt with as they arise, rather than swearing off the technology altogether. We feel the fact that countries in Africa, China, Brazil, countries in Africa and, yes, India, are adopting them more and more should be celebrated. These are the poor farmers the Europeans often claim to be defending. Why not help them get richer while also feeding more of the world?
