Airline miles can be very confusing, and with reason. Expectations of a bubble with airline miles have been in and out of vogue off and on for years now, namely because no one, least of all the airlines, are really sure how substantial they are, for long term use and as a form of currency.

At the most basic levels, when you fly you earn a certain number of miles, and once you have enough miles, you can use them for free trips. So should you use miles to book your next cross country trip? Or will it be more worth your while to pay for it and earn more miles? Should you only use miles for expensive tickets, and if so, how expensive?

By entering the price of a ticket, and the number of miles, you can see how much the flight costs you per mile, or how many miles you are earning per dollar. Once you use it a couple times, you will find a cost per mile that suits you as a point of reference, and you will be all the more informed for it.
